Blue skies! Fresh air! Gorgeous views! We all know and love the local hiking trails on the breathtaking mountains around Palm Springs. Did you know that there’s also a lake and recreational area in nearby La Quinta? Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park is a 710 acre open playground situated around a 135 acre reservoir at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains.
It offers hiking, bike riding, horseback riding, fishing, a playground, open grass areas with picnic tables and barbecues, and 91 individual and group campsites. Swimming and boating in the lake are prohibited because its primary function is to provide water to the valley’s farms. Nevertheless, if you want to get wet, the park has it’s own swimming pool. It’s an ideal outdoor getaway for a change of scenery on a day trip or even overnight!
Take advantage of this expansive park while you can. The 50 year lease agreement between Riverside County and the Coachella Valley Water District was set to expire on March 22, 2021 but in January, it was extended for 1 year. For more information and a map, click here.
